The Dual Diagnosis MH/MR program provides inpatient
psychiatric hospitalization for a population ranging in age from 14
years to adulthood. The program specializes in the psychiatric treatment
of acute behavioral and emotional problems of adolescents and adults
with mental retardation.
The principle goal of the program is to provide a multidisciplinary
assessment and comprehensive individualized treatment addressing primary
psychiatric/behavioral disorders as well as mental retardation needs.
Treatment methods are diverse and include intensive behavior shaping,
behavior management intervention training, pharmacology, social skills
training, psychotherapy on an individual, group or family basis, and
self-care socialization and adaptive skills training.
Individuals accepted into the program are capable of performing basic
self-help skills and self-presentation skills. These individuals will
also be ambulatory.
Program components include:
• Prompt admission process
• Responsive treatment by a multidisciplinary clinical team
• Assessment and stabilization of acute psychiatric conditions
• Medication consultation and monitoring
• Individualized behavioral treatment
• Substance Abuse treatment
• Consultation/Coordination with outpatient service providers
